Pricing the human-agentic web.
The agent economy is already in motion, and Cloudflare deciding what data is worth paying for is a milestone in it. This is a new kind of attention to price, where the data itself is the product and freemium may not hold. Rigid pricing never worked in older domains like telco, my home domain for fifteen years, and it will work even less here. That is the opportunity: to take the concepts already proven elsewhere and evolve them, with the help of agents.
Payments got solved. Charging didn't.
Payments
x402 lets an agent pay for a single request in stablecoins, on-chain, in one round trip. No account, no card, no gas. That part works.
Charging
The layer that decides what a request is actually worth: who's asking, what they touch, how fresh it is, how much they take. Nobody built it.
Flat is a 1995 rate plan
Cloudflare's pay-per-crawl: one flat price for your whole site. In telco we learned the hard way: not every call, customer, or minute is worth the same.
On Sept 15, 2026 Cloudflare started blocking AI crawlers by default. Then, in the same breath, it asked the open question: how do you charge different rates for different content, dynamic pricing by demand, granular licenses at internet scale? That question is a rating engine. Cloudflare's post ↗
“Everything is worth what its purchaser will pay for it.”

Valorian, the rating engine running today
Valorian sits in front of any API and prices agent traffic per request: crawler class, data zone, freshness, volume, intent. Then it settles over x402 on Base. The same discipline I use for telco billing, pointed at the agent economy. The price calc stays deterministic and auditable; the intelligence lives in the loop around it. It runs end to end today, with real on-chain settlement.
f(x)IQ, thinking out loud
f(x)IQ is where I write about charging the agent economy, for anyone whose data an AI wants. The charging engineer's read on x402, pay-per-crawl, and the pricing problems telcos already solved once. Ideas first; the product follows what resonates.
